Grit Strong
Some people give up. The gritty get stronger.
Grade Level:
Grit Strong for Elementary Students (K-5)
Grit Strong is designed for elementary students and encourages them to build their grit using a physical platform. Students learn about the three building blocks of grit (Growth Mindset, Goal Directedness, & Interpersonal Effectiveness/EQ) and get to apply their new skills during fitness-based challenges. Building strong minds and core muscles simultaneously, children will impress themselves with their own growth.
CHECK OUT A SAMPLE ACTIVITY:
Students stand in a circle. The first person selects and demonstrates a movement, such as a burpee. The next student then completes the burpee and adds another movement, such as push up. The third student then performs a burpee, a push up, and adds a movement of her/his choice. The pattern continues and students work together to see how long they can successfully make the sequence. If someone forgets the correct sequence, the other students are encouraged to help with prompts, keeping the sequence growing as long as possible. Otherwise, the game starts over again. Students try to improve upon their record from the previous session, demonstrating interpersonal effectiveness, goal directedness, and perseverance.
