Grade Level
Middle Level (Grades 6, 7, & 8)

Grit Centered is designed for middle level students to build grit using a mindfulness platform.  Students learn about the three building blocks of grit (Growth Mindset, Goal Directedness, and Interpersonal Effectiveness/EQ) and get to apply their new skills during mindful exercises such as relaxation training.  Students also learn techniques to quiet the negative messages in their mind and transform them into empowering self-statements.  By strengthening the mind/body connection, students can reduce anxiety and boost confidence when they need it most.


CHECK OUT A SAMPLE SCHEDULE

1. Students will learn and practice 3-4 new yoga-inspired stretches.

2. Instructor will facilitate a group discussion on a gritty topic such as The Power of Self Talk.

3. Students will be introduced and engage in a new stress reducing strategy such as Progressive Muscle Relaxation.

 
 

Program Goals & Expectations

Students will be given pre- and post-assessments to measure their:
     – frustration threshold using the Frustration Index Level (FIL)
     – grit-related content knowledge
     – ability to achieve relaxation using the Behavioral Relaxation Training (BRT) Assessment

Parents will receive weekly newsletters highlighting session content, key vocabulary, and extension conversation starters and activity ideas.
